Over time lips gradually lose volume, become smaller and can develop fine lines around their borders. The Cupid’s bow can become flattened and the corners of the mouth may turn downward, creating a tired, aged appearance. Dermal fillers can enhance thin lips, create a more defined lip border and add fullness and balance. A soft filler can be used for a very subtle effect to add hydration and small amounts of volume. A firmer filler can be used to add more volume and definition. All the while, aiming to maintain a natural look, just enhancing the original lip shape. Needle or cannula can be used, depending on the requirements and lip anatomy. Pain is usually managed with numbing cream that is applied in advance, and the fillers contain an anaesthetic within them too. Expect some swelling and bruising for a few days after treatment, but this can be minimised with ice and arnica following the procedure. Further information can be found on the Dermal fillers page.
